Re: Vineyards Theme Discussion

Hi All,

We’re in the process of developing a new theme group as part of the NCEAS seminar on ‘Biodiversity, conservation, and ecosystem services in managed landscapes’.

The new topic we’re developing is ‘Ecosystem services in vineyards’.  We’re preparing a synthesis paper on this topic that will introduce ecosystem services for vineyard managers and synthesize relevant research.

Here’s a list of our current participants, but part of our plan for developing this paper is to invite other experts in this area to participate in writing the synthesis paper on this topic.

Peggy Backup (UCD), pbackup@ucdavis.edu

Kendra Baumgartner (UCD), :open_compose_win('popup=1&to=Kendra+Baumgartner+<kbaumgartner@ucdavis.edu>&cc=&bcc=&msg=&subject=');">kbaumgartner@ucdavis.edu

Pete Garfinkel (KSU), krvfoods@ksu.edu

Karen Garrett (KSU/UCD), kgarrett@ksu.edu

Tom Gordon (UCD), trgordon@ucdavis.edu

We can use several tools on the DGS website, #, for developing this project.

1. To reduce e-mail traffic, we can use a discussion page for this theme group at

Home > Discuss > Theme discussion > Vineyards Theme Discussion

for discussing the development of the synthesis paper.  If you have comments for the group, please post them at that site.

I’m also copying this message to that discussion page so you can have it for reference.

2. We can post pdfs of papers we’re covering in the synthesis on the DGS website at

Home > Workspace > Themes > Vineyards > References (pdfs)

Thanks, Kendra, for two interesting papers I’ve just posted on this site.

3. For at least the time being, I don’t think we need to have a weekly discussion among all the participants.  But we can plan for discussions among at least Peggy, Pete, and me on a weekly basis.

Best,

Karen
