Broad narrative review
Up to Possible directions
I think that one valuable thing that we could do would be to write a comprehensive review of this topic. The existing reviews are a bit out of date and tend to concentrate on particular aspects such as bottom up controls, top down controls, landscape influece, conservation biocontrol, etc. A review that summarized and attempted to integrate these different areas would be of broad interest to folks. I am thinking of something along the lines of an Ecology Letters review. I think that we should be easily able to do this in addition to whatever other projects we decide to persue (perhpas wishful thinking!)
I think this is worthwhile project, specially if the focus is on agriculture. The review I'm familiar with is Andow's in 1991 (although I'm sure there might be others). However, so much has emerged on both "enemies hypothesis" and "resource concentration" since, that there is a need for condensation. Also the field of plant defenses has evolved significantly. you got my back John!
