Test landscape influence on pest/disease dynamics
Up to Possible directions
One thing that we might be able to do is test how landscape
diversity influences an integrative measure of pest or disease control service
(such as frequency of pest/disease outbreaks, or the average abundance of a suite of
economically important pests). Landcover data are readily available for a number of places. At OSU we
have access to GIS coverages of landcover for the Willamette Valley. We also think that we can get a hold of
spatially explicit long-term pest survey data for a number of sites in the Willamette Valley. We are still working on this so we are not not sure of the qualty, spatial extent, etc of these data. Karen Garret mentioned that there might be disease survey data available at UCD and KSU that we could also use. This might be a cool cooperative project between the pest control and disease themes.
