Prep for First Chat Meeting
Up to Announcements
Hi All!
I hope everyone had a great weekend.
I wanted to touch base about our goals for next week.
First, I have uploaded a set of papers for everyone to read before we have our first chat on Monday. You can find them within our Theme folder under readings/required readings. I tried to select a diversity of readings that would cover a lot of the basic issues, while still having a landscape theme. I don't really see any of these as "template papers", but hopefully they will help illuminate what is most interesting to the group. I'm still looking for more papers on linear habitats outside of Europe and North America and will post the ones I find for future discussions. One thing about the ROW stuff is that most of it isn't in PDF form, so the only thing I have included in the required readings is a government sponsored report.
As I mentioned in my last e-mail, I will upload additional papers into subject folders so that everyone can browse them according to interest.
What to do before next week:
1) Introduce yourself to the group via the discussion board in our theme folder.
2) Review the lecture slides & notes on Linear Habitats, particularly those concerning potential group projects.
3) Read the required papers (and skim any from the lecture that you didn't read before).
4) Come up with one potential project idea and post it to the group (I have created a discussion board entitled Project Ideas); Alternatively, tell us which of the ideas discussed in lecture most appeal to you. This is just a way to get things started, so don't stress about the details.
It's brainstorming time!!! Let's start THINKING.
